Welcome!
Seabrook Island Village Volunteer Options - lots of choices!
Our organization is entirely run by volunteers. New volunteers are welcomed continuously. We benefit from the creativity and talent of many individuals who add their personal touches as we strive to enhance the quality of life in our communities. This document provides an overview of how our volunteers contribute. If you don’t see a way to use your ideas and talent, let us know because our strength is our flexibility.
Note: the term member refers to those who join the organization, pay a fee, and receive benefits from volunteers.
Service Volunteers
These are the people who work directly with our members by providing services in their homes and/or transportation.
- Honoring our commitment to the members and their families, individuals who provide services all have a background check through a national service.
- After a cleared background check, Service Volunteers receive an extensive handbook and training manual to review and use, plus access to web site to view daily service requests by members.
Committee and Event Volunteers
- Administrative Services Team: Four members of the team who share responsibility of obtaining, qualifying/confirming and placing on-line service requests from members. Daily, information is confirmed from the member and requests are posted by 10 am. The team contacts the member to update the status of the request. The Team works closely with Member Support Chair for clarification of a member’s needs or request.
- Board of Directors: All members of the Board must have a background check because member information may be used to address organization issues. Details are in the bylaws, which are available on the web: seabrookislandvillage.org. Members of the board are happy to discuss their roles and responsibilities.
- Educational Programs: this group organizes programs related to health and wellness that are provided for volunteers, members and the general public. Typically, two programs are offered in the Fall and two in the Spring.
- Fundraising and Fundraising Events: To keep costs for members as low as possible, this committee seeks funds from a variety of sources. The group has successfully obtained grants from the Town of Seabrook Island and the Joanna Foundation. Events are organized for fun and fundraising. Typically, there are two Mahjong days a year and one other game-oriented day (think Cornhole or Pickleball).
- Kiawah River Estates (KRE) Village Committee: this group focuses on the needs and requests from members who reside in KRE. It works closely with the Administrative Services Team to match Service Volunteers who reside in KRE with members who reside in KRE.
- Marketing and Outreach: volunteers draft materials for local publications, design and distribute posters for educational and fundraising events and provide logistical support (e.g., assistance with set up and registration at events).
- Member Services: A prime responsibility is tailoring the variety of services that volunteers could provide to meet the needs of the members. Over time, members needs frequently change and this committee helps service volunteers adjust to meet emerging needs and/or helps members to seek professional services.
- Volunteer Coordination: This group is composed of active Service Volunteers. The group shares confidential information about members’ needs and evaluates ways to enhance our services. Additionally, the group explores and develops new programs to enrich members’ lives and strategies for recruitment of new volunteers. An annual recognition event for volunteers and updating the Volunteer handbook also are done by this group.
